I would like to tell you my absolute highlight for a Mallorca family holiday right at the beginning: A road trip along the west coast of Mallorca can be planned in a very relaxed way, even with a child. I drove the route through the Serra de Tramuntana with my daughter in one day, which was definitely a little too tight. Therefore, my tip: book an overnight stop.
Either halfway along the route or in the area around the end of the Ma-10. Alcudia is a particularly good place to stay with your family; it's definitely worth making a stop here before returning to your accommodation. Above all, Alcudia offers beautiful beaches - perfect for families.

If you want to visit the northernmost point of Mallorca, it's not far from Alcudia or Pollença. On the way to Cap de Formentor, you'll have a great view of the sea and you'll see the famous lighthouse on the way there, which is perfect for a half-day trip with children.

2nd day trip to the family beach in Alcudia
What would a family holiday in Mallorca be without a day at the beach? The island has gorgeous coves nestled in a fascinating cliff landscape. But not all beaches are easily accessible. My favourite of the family beaches on Mallorca is the bay of Alcudia.
The beach slopes gently, the water is calm and wonderfully warm. Here you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, there is plenty of parking nearby and if you feel like it, you can take a long walk with your kids along the promenade overlooking the sea.
3 Hidro Park Alcudia
Alcudia is one of the best addresses for family holidays on Mallorca, and not only because of the bathing bay, which is particularly suitable for children. It is also home to the Hidro Park Alcudia, a huge bathing complex with several pools and water slides. If you are looking for action and adventure with your kids, this swimming pool is the right choice for you.

4. city stroll in Palma
A must on any holiday to Mallorca with children: a visit to Palma de Mallorca. Palma is not very big and easy to explore with children. Afterwards, you can walk to the beach or spend the rest of the afternoon at one of the children's playgrounds.
Below the cathedral, not far from the sea, you will find this facility with a slide tower, swings and playground equipment for small children. The playground has some benches in the shade where you can have a picnic for the kids. For detailed tips on Palma with children, click here.
5 Palma Cathedral and Arab Baths
Admittedly, extensive visits to museums and churches are not the best programme for a family holiday in Mallorca. Nevertheless, you shouldn't miss out on a visit to Palma Cathedral. Already in the morning, the sun shines through the windows into the church, the colourful lights reflect and are reflected on the floor.
A fascinating spectacle that even the little ones can enjoy and distract themselves for a moment. Information, opening hours and prices for Palma Cathedral can be found on the website.
From the cathedral, it's not far to the Banys Arabs, Palma's Arab baths. Don't worry, you don't need to take any swimming gear with you on your stroll through the city. The Arab baths are a little oasis of cacti, palm trees and seating.
A really nice retreat for a picnic or a snack you brought yourself. There are also sanitary facilities here, not entirely unimportant for a Majorca family holiday. The entrance is on Calle de Serra.
6 Visit a weekly market
On Mallorca's weekly markets, real Mallorcan life still takes place. Not a day goes by without the market stalls being set up in one of the island towns. I like to go to the weekly market in Santanyi on Wednesdays or Saturdays, where the displays are set up in the shopping street between the restaurants and cafés.
After an extensive stroll, you can fortify yourself there. An absolute plus for Mallorca: the people here are, typical for Spain, very child-friendly. Kids are more than welcome in the restaurants, which makes it especially relaxed for parents.
If you want to visit several markets on Mallorca at once, I recommend the Mark in Sineu. This is the oldest farmers' market on Mallorca. The markets in Port de Pollença and Alcudia are also great.
Mallorca family holidays - the best travel guides
7. take the Red Lightning from Palma to Sóller
A very special highlight for the kids on your family holiday in Mallorca is the ride on the Red Lightning from Palma to Sóller. The historic narrow-gauge railway rattles and clatters, and the wooden benches are almost a little uncomfortable. But that is part of this nostalgic adventure.
For a long time, only oranges were transported on this line, but today the ride on Mallorca's Red Lightning is a popular tourist attraction. Small children ride free of charge.
8. inexpensive family holiday on Mallorca: watching fishing boats
Spending cheap family holidays in Mallorca is really easy, because apart from the expensive attractions and parks, the Spanish Mediterranean island has a lot of nature and original life to offer, which you can take part in with the children.
There are small harbours all around the island where fishermen leave their boats. If you wake up early, you can watch them at work in the morning when they bring the catch home. You will also meet trusting cats, friendly dogs and water birds.
9 Picnic and swim at Gorg Blue
Mallorca has beautiful lakes, one of which is the Gorg Blau reservoir in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. On the way from Pollença to Sóller, you will pass Gorg Blau by car. There are plenty of parking spaces and shady areas for picnics.
Nearby, in the northwest of Mallorca, is another lake. The Cúber reservoir. From here you also have a spectacular view of the Puig Major, the highest mountain on the island. Both lakes impress with their blue-green water.
10 Hiking and cycling on the green path between Manacor and Artà
If you fancy hiking and cycling on your family holiday in Mallorca, then you can do this particularly well with children on the Green Way between Manacor and Artà. The former railway line has been converted into a 30-kilometre-long cycling and hiking trail.
Along the way you will find information boards and signs about flora and fauna, there are rest areas and picnic areas. The trail is at ground level and is easy to navigate with a buggy or pram.
The best gadgets for travelling with children
11. family holiday on Mallorca: Aqualand El Arenal
Aqualand in El Arenal is another highlight for family holidays in Mallorca. Here you will find the largest children's playground in Mallorca. 12 water slides, a huge dragon sculpture in the water and attractions such as the tropical rainforest will delight the kids.
There is a water playground for younger children, while older children and adults can tickle their nerves during the rapid descent on the rubber boat slide .
12. Jungle Parc High Ropes Park
Jungle Parc is Mallorca's largest adventure and climbing park and one of the top destinations for family holidays on Mallorca. The 40 attractions in the high ropes park are divided into different levels of difficulty, and you can climb up to ten metres high.
Children must be at least nine years old, and up to the age of eleven they must be accompanied by an adult. There are signposted paths for families in the climbing park. Those with the necessary strength and stamina take the more challenging route through the Jungle Parc.
13. the best beaches for family holidays in Mallorca
Of course, you don't want to miss out on digging in the sand and relaxing on the beach during your family holiday in Mallorca. There are child-friendly beaches all around Mallorca. Many bays are guarded by lifeguards during the season, there are sanitary facilities, restaurants are within walking distance and you will find plenty of parking spaces.
My favourites are the bay of Alcudia, Platja de Muro and Cala Mondrago. You can also rent umbrellas and sunbeds there. Access to the beach is barrier-free, so you can easily transport all the things the kids need to play and build castles to the sandy beach on Mallorca.
The way to Cala Pi leads you down stairs, but the descent is worth it if you and your children are good walkers. The beach and parking facilities are signposted, and there is a nice children's playground nearby.
14. caves in Mallorca
Did you know that there are over 4000 caves in Mallorca? If your kids love caves, then I have a tip for you. The stalactite cave Coves d'Artà in the east of Mallorca is an impressive cave system that you can explore with the kids on a Mallorca day trip. The limestone formations are more than as tall as a house and are incredibly impressive just because of their size.
Stalactites as high as houses
If you're not sure which of the caves you'd like to explore on Mallorca, then we have the ultimate Mallorca cave test for you. Should it be the Coves d'Artà, the dragon cave Coves del Drach, the insider tip Coves de Campanet, Coves de Génova or the Coves dels Hams? As you can see, there is a lot to discover on Mallorca.
15. hikes in Mallorca
Finally, I'll link you to a few beautiful hikes on Mallorca. The routes are not all suitable for small children if they want to walk themselves. If you have a stretcher or a backpack with you, these hikes are ideal excursion destinations for family holidays on Mallorca, especially in spring and autumn. Here you will find an overview of the most beautiful hiking routes on Mallorca:
Hike to the dream beach Platja des Coll Baix

Excursions by rental car
If you can get your kids excited about excursions and tours, then definitely take a rental car on Mallorca. The Spanish Mediterranean island can be explored in a very relaxed way by car. In my extra article, I have summarised specific tips for tours on Mallorca with children, so that you can spend an inexpensive family holiday on Mallorca.

Best time to travel
When is the best time to travel to Mallorca with children? Well, you can actually say that the climate on Mallorca is reliable all year round. But of course there are rainy days on the Balearic Islands from time to time. If you want to prepare for bad weather, read my article Tips for rainy days in Mallorca.
My favourite time to visit Mallorca with children is in spring and autumn, in summer it can get very hot and the sun is very strong. If you plan to spend your summer holidays in Mallorca, make sure you bring UV clothing and enough sun protection for your kids.
